SolarElastosis
A yellowish, honeycomb pattern on the forehead is characteristic of this type of sun damage.

SOLAR ELASTOSIS

Solar elastosis (SE) is caused by chronic UV exposure. SE is more common in patients who smoke. The cause is abnormal and increased elastic fibers.

Clinical

Nearly confluent yellow discoloration of the skin of the forehead, scalp and/or cheeks is typical. Fair-skinned older patients with years of chronic sun exposure are preferentially affected. Areas absent the yellowish color correspond to hair follicles.

Treatment

Sun protection to prevent further skin damage is needed. Smokers should quit. Topical retinoids can improve the appearance of the skin. Dermabrasion, chemical peels and laser may help.
