Multiple tags in the axilla.
SKIN TAG
Skin tags (STs) are benign "nubbins of flesh" common in the friction areas.
- STs are associated with increased height, weight and diabetes.
- Patients usually want them removed as they catch on clothing, necklaces, etc.
- These tabs of skin are common on the neck, axilla and groin. They are usually flesh-colored. Any pigment may indicate a nevus instead.
Treatment
- Ignore
- Freeze (not in darker-skinned patients)
- Cauterize
- Snip/cut for larger lesions
Skin tags are benign and may be ignored. Small lesions may be frozen. This should be avoided, however, in patients with darker skin as color changes may result. Larger lesions and lesions with a thicker base should be snipped after local anesthesia. Very small lesions, e.g., 1-2 mm, may be cauterized without anesthesia.
