PIEZOGENIC PEDAL PAPULES
Piezogenic pedal papules (PPP) are skin-colored papules appearing on the medial, posterior and lateral aspects of the heel that appear upon standing. They represent herniations of fat and can be painful. In one study of 322 Dutch students 4-13 years of age, 72% had one or more PPP and not one was painful.
Treatment
It is the very rare patient who seeks treatment for these lesions. However, if pain is significant, a foot-and-ankle stocking was rapidly effective in one case. Otherwise, loss of weight, avoidance of prolonged standing, foam rubber pads plastic heel cups and even surgery have been used.
