PERIORBITAL DERMATITIS

Periorbital dermatitis (PD) is a common inflammatory skin condition characterized by small, red, acne-like bumps, around the eyes. The same eruption about the mouth is called perioral dermatitis. Taken as a whole, these rashes may be grouped under the term periorificial dermatitis.

Treatment

For limited disease, topical erythromycin 0.5% ophthalmologic ointment BID for 3 weeks may be tried. For extensive, or resistant cases, oral doxycycline e.g. 50-100 mg po BID may be given.
