LEUKONYCHIA PUNCTATA
Leukonychia punctata (LP) represents the most common form of true leukonychia and appears as small white spots distributed haphazardly on the nail--usually the fingernail.
- Trauma may induce, e.g. nail biting.
- They represent disruption of the normal nail plate formation.
- Disturbance of the nail plate’s highly organized keratin fibre system alters its transparency and makes it look white.
- They grow out and are shed over time.
