LENTIGO
A lentigo is a benign increase in melanin of the skin producing a sharply-defined brown or black macule. The pleural form is lentigines.
- Lentigenes may occur in a variety of syndromes, e.g. Multiple Lentigenes Syndrome or Leopard Syndrome.
- The term solar lentigo refers to a lentigo that occurs in a sun-exposed area and is caused by excessive sun exposure.
- In one study in China, exposure to fine particulate matter was associated with increased incidence of senile lentigos.
Ink Spot Lentigo.
An "ink spot" or reticulated black solar lentigo is a type of sun-induced skin lesion characterized by a dark, often black, irregular spot with a wiry or beaded outline, resembling a spot of ink. It's a benign condition.
Clinical Evaluation of Lentigos
Careful examination with dermoscopy of solitary pigmented lesions should be done to exclude melanoma.
