FRICTIONAL LICHENOID DERMATITIS
Frictional lichenoid dermatitis (FLD) is a variant of eczema which commonly results from scratching.
- Patients are usually 4-12 years of age and male.
Clinical
Lichenoid papules symmetric on the backs of the hands, elbows, knees, and extensor forearms in children in the summer is characteristic. Adults may also be affected. Approximately half of patients have atopic dermatitis.
Treatment
A medium potency topical steroid combined with emolliation may be prescribed. Friction (e.g. scratching) in these areas should be minimized.
