EPIDERMAL NEVUS
An epidermal nevus is a benign (non-cancerous) overgrowth of skin cells that typically appears as a birthmark or develops in early childhood. These nevi are characterized by patches, nodules, or plaques on the skin, and can be present at birth or appear later. They are caused by an overgrowth of the epidermis, the outermost layer of skin.
Treatment
No treatment is needed. If small, surgical excision may be done. Various destructive modalities, including cryotherapy, electrodessication and laser have been employed with varying success.
- Here is an article about using the CO2 laser for epidermal nevi. As you can see from the pictures, some patients had excellent results.
