ECTHYMA
Ecthyma is an infection by group A beta hemolytic streptococcus, staphylococcus aureus or both. As with other streptococcal infections, acute glomerulonephritis may occur. This condition should be distinguished from ecthyma gangrenosum.
Clinical
Multiple, circular or oval ulcers covered by a hard, brown dried crust on the legs is typical. Upon healing, scarring may occur.
Treatment
An oral antibiotic along with local wound care should be prescribed.
