Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra

DERMATOSIS PAPULOSA NIGRA

Dermatosis papulosa nigra (DPN) is a variant of seborrheic keratoses that presents as multiple brown to black papules on the cheeks of darker-skinned individuals.

Clinical

Multiple, brown, papules, small plaques and pedunculated lesions occur on the face, neck, and upper trunk in a darker-skinned patient. Histologically, DPN resembles the seborrheic keratosis.

Treatment

No treatment is needed. If the patient desires, several destructive modalities may be done including scissors excision (especially good for pedunculated lesions), light cautery, and/or electrodesiccation.

Cryotherapy should not be done as it may cause hypopigmentation.
