ANKLE FLARE
The ankle flare is a crown of dilated venules about the medial ankle and is a manifestation of chronic venous insufficiency. It is also known as corona phlebectatica paraplantaris. See also varicose veins.
Clinical
A starburst of veins radiates distally from the medial malleolus.
Treatment
Sclerotherapy may be used in appropriate cases. Workup and therapy for chronic venous insufficiency may be needed at some point.
