Proud flesh, aka hypergranulation tissue in a wound, this represents overgrowth of the highly vascularized tissue during healing.
- The main problem with proud flesh is that it can inhibit wound healing.
The application of silver nitrate (usually from a silver nitrate stick) is a long relied upon approach. More recently, the application of a potent topical steroid has been popularized, e.g. fluocinonide, clobetasol BID.
One may also debulk, e.g. shave flat after injecting lidocaine. It bleeds slightly, but AlCl3 and a pressure dressing after are usually sufficient.
