HIV LIPODYSTROPHY

HIV lipodystrophy is a common cluster of both metabolic abnormalities and lipodystrophy. Characteristic features include insulin resistance, hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia and fat redistribution. There is an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Clinical

There is loss of subcutaneous fat in the face and in particular, the cheeks. Other areas that may be affected include the arms the legs along with increased abdominal fat.

Treatment

Injection of fillers is quite successful for the cheeks.
