DYSCHROMATOSIS SYMMETRICA HEREDITARIA

Dyschromatosis symmetrica hereditaria (DSH), AKA reticulate acropigmentation of Dohi, is a genodermatosis characterized by hyper and hypopigmented macules on the dorsal aspects of the arms and legs. Mutations in the ADAR1 gene (adenosine deaminase acting on RNA1) are responsible.
- White and dark patches occur in the acral areas.
- Most common in Japan.
- Usually inherited AD. Thus, DSH runs in families.
Hyper and hypopigmented macules are seen on the dorsal aspects of the arms and legs. Onset is usually within the first few years of life.
The fractional CO2 laser has been used successfully [JEADV 2016;30;1035].
